Martin's Restaurant & Lounge

Updated: Apr 2, 2019

Reviewing a restaurant is often one of the areas of review that is most difficult. It is almost impossible to sample the entire menu of the restaurant which makes a review seem one-sided. For this reason, many of the restaurant reviews will concentrate on services and the overall experience and less on the quality of the food.

Martin's Restaurant & Lounge is located at 2000 S Ocean Shore Blvd, in Flagler Beach, Florida and is known for its Prime Rib, but also serves a variety of seafood, sandwiches, chicken, pork and more. It has been in operation for 32 years and I have personally been to the restaurant several times since it opened up. During that time, little has changed – except the prices which is no surprise – and they added a lounge and upstairs. The restaurant sits on the beach side with only the two-lane highway – A1A – separating you from the ocean so the scenery is fabulous. If you are lucky you can get a window table and watch the sea gulls and pelicans glide on the ocean breeze and the waves crash onto the shore.

The restaurant has a sea-side décor giving it a nice, rustic feel. Despite the rustic feel and appearance, it appears clean and well keep. A review of its state inspection records indicates some occasional problems over the years, which for the most part were corrected at the time of inspections, but no serious fines or other administrative action since 2013.

PRIME RIB

This is what Martin’s is known for – their prime rib. They have three (3) cut: regular ($20.99), full ($26.99), and king ($29.99); each progressively larger. The prime rib is by far the most tender cut of meat that one can have and can almost be cut with a fork. If there is a down side to their prime rib, it is I prefer my prime rib with a little bit more spicy taste. Nevertheless, Martin’s prime rib is lean with very little fat. You get a choice of two sides include the customary baked potato, French fries, vegetable, salad, coleslaw, or rice.

"If your favorite food is Prime Rib, this is the place to go."

Seafood and more…

Martins also boasts a variety of seafood plates and “surf and turf” combinations with prices ranging from around $15 and up. They also offer children platers, as well as BBQ ribs, boneless chicken, etc. Deserts include cheese cake, key lime pie, and rice pudding.

Service

Service at Martins is slightly above par of most restaurants. It is not exceptionable, but it is acceptable by today’s standards. They are friendly and accurate but on Friday and Saturdays are naturally too busy to engage in idle chat.
